Partners Eileen Brassil and Bob Cann attended the AICPA Employee Benefit Plans Accounting, Auditing, and Regulatory Update May 10-12 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Minnesota Partners and Audit Staff attended the MN CPA Society Employee Benefits Conference on May 23 in Plymouth, MN. Partner Larry Wood served on the Planning Task Force for the Conference.
Brassil also recently attended the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP) Accounting and Auditing Institute for Employee Benefit Plans which took place in Las Vegas June 27-29. Eileen presented at the Institute on “Welfare Claims Testing.”
Ian Dingwall, the Chief Accountant of the Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration, spoke at the IFEBP Institute and gave an update on topics of particular interest this year, including continued discussion of the study of employee benefit plan audits.
These are all “must-attend” educational conferences for CPAs who audit employee benefit plans. The conferences provide up-to-date information on the latest financial statement disclosure requirements, accounting and auditing best practices, and regulatory and compliance updates.
Important updates from conferences were covered with all Legacy employees at a recent Employee Benefit Plan Update Seminar. A recap of hot topics is covered on page 4.
We also attend the IFEBP’s U.S. Annual Employee Benefits Conference each year. The conference draws over 5,000 attendees and is always a key educational event for employee benefit plan trustees and professionals. It’s also a great place for us to catch up with clients, prospects, and friends of the Firm.
We attended the 61st U.S. Annual Employee Benefits Conference November 8-11, 2015 where Legacy Partner Eileen Brassil co-presented with Ian Dingwall, the Chief Accountant of the Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration, on the topic of “5500 Update.” Partners Eric Wallin and Bruce Pavlik also presented at the Conference while Managing Partner Tim Cibulka attended educational sessions. We’re looking forward to attending the upcoming 62nd U.S. Annual Employee Benefits Conference scheduled for November 13-16 in Orlando, Florida. We’ll keep you posted on when and where our partners will be speaking as the event nears.
Partner Colin Thompson, along with Senior Manager Tim Fagan and Marketing Director Julie Tucek will be attending the Illinois Public Pension Fund Association’s MidAmerican Pension Conference on October 4-7 at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva. The Conference will be attended by over 1,000 police and fire pension fund trustees and service providers.
Back in the Legacy offices, our partners return from conferences and share what they learned with all of our Firm’s professionals at in-house seminars. We believe it is vital for our professionals to keep up to date on all of the topics affecting our clients. This allows us to provide best practices, advice, and guidance to our benefit plan clients while also giving us the tools and knowledge to assist them with issues and challenges affecting their operations and reporting requirements.
